What You’ll Need:

Beef Stir Fry:

  • 12 oz beef stir fry strips

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tsp cornstarch

  • 1 tsp sesame oil (optional)

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

  • 1–2 tbsp cooking oil (for searing)

Broccoli:

  • 2 cups broccoli florets

  • Splash of water (for steaming)

  • Pinch of salt

Stir Fry Sauce:

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce

  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar (or white vinegar)

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp grated ginger

  • ¼ cup beef broth or water

  • 1 tsp cornstarch (for thickening)

Rice:

  • ½ cup jasmine rice

  • 1 cup water

  • Pinch of salt

  • 1 tbsp butter (optional)

Optional Garnishes:

  • Sesame seeds

  • Sliced green onions

  • Chili flakes or chili oil

Let’s Cook:

Make the Rice:

In a small pot, combine jasmine rice, water, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, then cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 12–15 minutes until water is absorbed. Remove from heat and keep covered.

Marinate the Beef:

In a bowl, toss beef strips with soy sauce, cornstarch, sesame oil (optional), salt, and pepper. Let rest while prepping other ingredients.

Make the Stir Fry Sauce:

In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin, rice vinegar, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, broth (or water), and cornstarch. Set aside.

Cook the Broccoli:

Heat a large pan or wok over medium-high with a drizzle of oil. Add broccoli and a pinch of salt, stir 30 seconds, then add a splash of water. Cover and steam until vibrant and just tender (2–4 minutes). Transfer broccoli to a plate.

Sear the Beef:

Add a little more oil to the same pan. Increase heat to high. Add beef strips in a single layer and sear 1–2 minutes per side until browned and just cooked. Don’t overcrowd, do it in batches if needed. Return all beef to the pan.

Add the Sauce:

Pour the stir fry sauce over the beef. Stir and simmer 1–2 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the meat.

Bring It All Together:

Add cooked broccoli back into the pan. Toss everything together until well combined and warmed through.

Assemble Your Bowls:

Fluff the jasmine rice and divide between two bowls. Top with beef and broccoli. Finish with sesame seeds, sliced green onions, and a drizzle of chili oil if you like heat.
